Bodies of missing men found
Fishermen lost at sea Dec. 3
The bodies of the two missing fisherman from the Misty Blue have been found by state police divers, a department spokesman announced last night, and the attorney of one of the men’s families said relatives were grateful for the recovery.
Michael Roberts, 44, and Jonathan Saraiva, 32, were lost at sea after a fishing boat they were on rolled over 10 miles off the coast of Nantucket on Dec. 3. The search for the two men was called off two days later, when state police found the sunken boat.
“The Roberts family wants to thank the Massachusetts state dive team for its indefatigable efforts in working through some bad weather to recover Mr. Roberts’ body,” said attorney Michael B. Flynn. “The family can’t state how much it means to have the body returned to them. They are looking to move through the grieving process and moving forward with that at this time.
“Our thoughts and prayers go out to the Saraiva family, especially during the holiday season,” Flynn added.
“We offer our deepest condolences to their families,” said state police spokesman David Procopio, saying one of the men was found yesterday morning and the other in the afternoon.
The 69-foot, steel-hulled ship was built in 1996 and formerly named the Harvester, according to U.S. Coast Guard records, and was owned by Atlantic Cape Fisheries. Two other men on board the Misty Blue were rescued by a private fishing vessel in the area.
Flynn added, “the Roberts family looks forward to working with investigative agencies to determine the cause of the incident, including the Coast Guard and the” National Transportation Safety Board.
