Carol (Andrea Martin) is rocked to learn her parents are getting a divorce after 70 years of marriage on “Great News” (Thursday at 9:30 p.m. on NBC). But when her daughter Katie (Briga Heelan) seems to have given up on love, that's just too much for Carol. Meanwhile, Chuck (John Michael Higgins) and Justin (Horatio Sanz) compete for a cute barista, and the only casualty might be their friendship.

Your favorite time traveler is getting a makeover. On the “Doctor Who Christmas Special” (Monday at 9 p.m. on BBC America), the good Doctor played by Peter Capaldi makes his final appearance. And in his stead, the new Doctor takes his place, played by, for the first time in the franchise's history, a woman, Jodie Whittaker. Some loyal fans are boiling mad over the gender switch. They find the idea of a time lord living hundreds of years, fighting living statues and robots that look like giant salt 'n' pepper shakers more plausible than seeing a woman in action. Their loss.

The 40th Annual Kennedy Center Honors (Tuesday at 9 p.m. on CBS) celebrates dancer and choreographer Carmen de Lavallade, iconic TV producer Norman Lear, and musicians Gloria Estefan, Lionel Richie and LL Cool J. President Trump did not attend this year's ceremony, but those paying tribute include Anthony Anderson, Dave Chappelle, Rachel Bloom and some unknown named Meryl Streep. They'll just let anybody go on this show.
