Kaling treated to Ephron-themed soiree
We'll have what she's having: New mom Mindy Kaling was treated to a Nora Ephron-themed dinner party, after giving birth to her first child. “I usually do a holiday dinner with the young women that work with me, but I've had a busy week! So they brought the holiday dinner to me. It's a You've Got Mail Norah (sic) Ephron-themed holiday dinner,” Kaling, quite the rom-com aficionado, posted on Instagram.
The Cambridge-bred creator and star of “The Mindy Project,” as well as the soon-to-be series “Champions,” didn't lift a finger for the evening's festivities. After delivering her new daughter Katherine on Dec. 15, Kaling has had her hands full — too full even to help think up some pun-tastic names for the dinner's themed dishes.
“Look at this menu! Look at these Nora Ephron deep cuts!” Kaling gushed on social media. “(Maybe for dessert we will have coffee... Patricia? Patricia's amazing. Patricia makes coffee nervous.)”
The party, which was dubbed the “Yule Got Mail Holiday Dinner,” featured a menu that predominantly pulled references from two of Ephron's most famous films,
“When Harry Met Sally” and
“You've Got Mail.” Clever courses included “Fox Books-el Sprouts,” “NY152 Black and White Cookies” and “Pie à la Sally.”
Any fan of Kaling's knows that Ephron's “You've Got Mail” made the cut for her list of favorite romantic comedies, which she shared with Time magazine in 2016.
We'd personally like to have seen a little more love for “Sleepless in Seattle” in that lineup of holiday fare. An “H and G” cocktail would have made it ... an affair to remember.
