A LIFT TICKET TO SOUTHIE!

-

South Boston’s Public Street Bistro and Garden is bringing us the closest thing to a snowy ski weekend away — minus the actual skiing part.

The Dorchester Street joint is pulling off an impressive transformation, turning its interior courtyard and garden space into an apres-skiers dream. Dubbed The Lodge at Publico, this pop-up restaurant and bar will give you a proper chalet experience without having to schlep all of your gear up north.

When you glide into The Lodge at Publico, you can expect to see a cozy space adorned with the essentials, like oversized flannel blankets, fluffy pillows, decorative sleds and an assortment of moose and deer heads — all faux, of course. And what’s an enjoyable ski experience without some fresh powder? Publico has you covered, setting up an artificial snow machine to send flakes fluttering through the air.

As if New England needs any help in that department ...

If you’re one of those chillyprone folks, fear not. The temperatures may dip down into the single digits, but Publico will keep guests nice and toasty with a new retractable roof, roaring fire pits and heated nooks.

Then, there’s always the old-fashioned route: staying warm by eating and drinking. The Lodge boasts a menu of hearty, stick-toyour-bones food — try the Triple Diamond Slope Sliders or White Heat Fried Mac & Cheese — and piping hot cocktails like Hot Buttered Rum and Spiked Hot Chocolate to keep everyone comfortable. Throughout the next few months, folks can expect The Lodge to host a series of special events, which will strive to stay on-theme. You can watch out for lift ticket and gear giveaways, a DIY hot chocolate bar featuring every accoutrement you could ever want with a mug of cocoa and watch parties for the 2018 Winter Olympic Games.

For now, The Lodge at Publico has two big bashes on the docket. Tonight, it will host a sneak-peek party from 6 p.m. to 12 a.m. for eager guests in the mood for a firstlook at the winter wonderland. On Jan. 5, it will officially open, holding a grand opening celebration to christen the place.

The ultra-snug pop-up will be open only on Fridays and Saturdays — always from 6 p.m. to midnight — starting in January and going strong through March. Just try your best not to fall asleep while you’re there.
