Bill gives talk cold shoulder
FOXBORO — Bill Belichick refuses to be fooled.
Even though meteorologists and weather apps have universally forecasted miserably cold conditions for today’s game against the Jets, Belichick was frosty over the notion that it might be frigid at Gillette Stadium, and he continued his long-running battle against Mother Nature and those who predict her wrath.
“We’ll see what we get,” Belichick said. “We’ve all been down that road before. The weather changes pretty quickly around here. Even what we forecast for the day of the game on the day of the game isn’t always what we get, so we’ll see what we get and we’ll deal with it.”
The players have noted they’ll take extra precautions today as the temperatures are expected to be in the single digits and possibly below zero with the wind chill. Belichick conceded that would be a good idea.
“There’s nothing more important than the health and safety of our team, so we always take that into consideration,” the Pats coach said. “You can’t play football without football players.”
Over the past 24 years, some predating Belichick’s arrival in 2000, the Patriots have used the weather to their advantage. Since 1993, they’re 42-10 when the temperature at kickoff is 34 degrees or colder, and under Belichick they’re 28-8 when it’s sub-freezing at kickoff. The Pats are also 11-0 in franchise history when it snows during a home game.
So does Belichick have a favorite weather game?
“Yeah, there’s a few,” he said. “We’ll see how it goes here.”
