Salve Regina tips UMB in Codfish

Erik Udahl scored an unassisted goal with 11 seconds to play and Salve Regina edged UMass-Boston, 3-2, to capture the Codfish Bowl Invitation­al title at Edward Barry Rink yesterday.

Down 2-1 entering the third period, the Beacons (114-0) got a goal from Jack Riley to square things with 8:43 remaining.

UMass-Boston continued to pepper Seahawks goalie Blake Wojtala (41 saves), but could not register the tiebreaker.

Salve improved to 10-3-2.

Northeaste­rn 3, Amer. Int’l 1 — At Matthews Arena, Cayden Primeau recorded 24 saves as the Huskies (11-5-2) dropped the Yellow Jackets (6-12-2).

St. Lawrence 3, UMassLowel­l 0 — In Burlington, Vt., Daniel Mannella turned aside 35 shots as the Saints (3-14-1) blanked the River Hawks (109-0) in the Catamount Cup championsh­ip game.

Harvard 4, Vermont 1 — In the consolatio­n, Ryan Donato collected a hat trick and the Crimson (5-6-1) handled the Catamounts (4-12-3).

Babson 4, Lake Forest 1 — In Babson Park, Zach Phelps scored twice and Matt Pom- pa registered 33 saves as the Beavers (7-4-1) dammed the Foresters (7-5-0).

Women’s hockey

Princeton 4, Boston Univ. 1 — In Princeton, N.J., Breanna Scarpaci lit the lamp but the Terriers (7-10-3) fell to the Tigers (5-9-3).

Men’s basketball

Northeaste­rn 81, James Madison 70 — In Harrisonbu­rg, Va., Vasa Pusica scored 31 points and Shawn Occeus 21 as the Huskies (8-5) dropped the Dukes (4-10) in their CAA opener.

Minnesota 65, Harvard 55 — In Minneapoli­s, Jordan Murphy compiled 13 points and 12 rebounds to pace the Gophers (12-3) over the Crimson (5-8). Corey Johnson’s 12 points led Harvard.

St. Bonaventur­e 98, UMass 78 — In Olean, N.Y., Jaylen Adams and Matt Mobley combined for 60 points and nine 3-pointers to propel the Bonnies (11-2) over the Minutemen (7-7) in their A-10 opener. Luwane Pipkins scored 17 to lead UMass.

Wisconsin 82, UMass-Lowell 53 — In Madison, Wis., Brevin Pritzl and Ethan Happ each netted 18 points as the Badgers (8-7) cruised past the River Hawks (6-7). Josh Gantz’ 16 points led UML.

E. Nazarene 87, Lyndon State 55 — In Quincy, Josh Rice netted 22 points as the Lions (4-6) drilled the Hornets (1-7).

Endicott 93, Clark 80 — In Salem, Keith Brown erupted for 34 points as the Gulls (73) dropped the Cougars (3-8).

UMass-Dartmouth 78, Hampden-Sydney 70 — In Tampa, Arinze Obiora collected 22 points and 10 rebounds as the Corsairs (7-4) tamed the Tigers (4-7).

Alabama 79, Texas A&M 57 — In Tuscaloosa, Ala., John Petty scored 18 points to help the Crimson Tide (9-4) knock off the No. 5 Aggies (112) in the SEC opener for both teams.

Xavier 77, DePaul 72 — In Cincinnati, J.P. Macura scored 19 points and the No. 6 Musketeers (14-1, 2-0 Big East) erased a 16-point deficit to drop the Blue Demons (7-7, 0-2).

Purdue 98, Lipscomb 66 — In West Lafayette, Ind., Vincent Edwards had 23 points and 15 rebounds to help the No. 14 Boilermake­rs (13-2) trounce the Bison (9-5).

Miami 67, Pittsburgh 53 — Ja’Quan Newton scored 13 points and the No. 15 Hurricanes (12-1) caged the host Panthers (8-6) in their ACC opener.
