Police seek female driver in fatal Centerville hit-and-run

- By JORDAN GRAHAM

Barnstable cops are turning to the public for help tracking down a female driver they believe hit and killed a 62-year-old man Friday before leaving the scene.

Officers responding to numerous 911 calls reporting a seriously injured man lying in the westbound lane of Route 28 in Centerville about 8 p.m. found the victim “suffering from severe trauma,” Barnstable police said in a Facebook post, noting it appeared the man had been hit by a car.

The man, whose name was not released last night, was rushed to Cape Cod Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

In the hopes of identifying the driver who hit him, police released a description of their suspect last night.

Investigators are looking for a white woman in her late 20s or early 30s with black hair who smokes cigarettes and was wearing blue jeans and a light-colored coat at the time of the crash. Police said they believe she was driving a brown, gray or champagne-colored Toyota sedan — possibly a Corolla, Camry or Avalon — that would now have fresh damage to the front end, grill, hood, windshield and roof.

Police said the woman got out of her car and checked on the victim before fleeing westbound on Route 28.

Anyone with information about the incident or who may know the suspect is urged to call the Barnstable Police Department at 508775-0812.
