Dorn, NC State dispose of No. 2 Duke

Omer Yurtseven had 16 points while Torin Dorn hit two huge 3-pointers in the final 2 minutes to help North Carolina State upset No. 2 Duke, 96-85, last night in Raleigh, N.C.

It was the second win against a No. 2-ranked team this season for N.C. State (11-5, 1-2 ACC), which upset Arizona in November.

The Wolfpack shot 55 percent after halftime, though the two biggest shots came from Dorn.

He first hit a 3 from the corner over an oncoming Marvin Bagley III with 2:02 left and N.C. State protecting a four-point lead. Then Dorn hit one to beat the shot clock on an inbounds pass while being fouled by Javin DeLaurier, a fourpoint play that pushed the Wolfpack to a 91-80 lead with 1:06 left.

Bagley finished with 31 points and 10 rebounds for the Blue Devils (13-2, 1-2).

Villanova 100, Marquette 90 — In Philadelph­ia, Jalen Brunson had 27 points and eight assists and the No. 3 Wildcats (14-1, 2-1 Big East) bounced back from their first loss of the season by holding off the Golden Eagles (11-5, 2-2).

Eric Paschall added 19 points and Mikal Bridges had 18 points and seven rebounds for Nova, which never trailed and shot 56 percent from the field to give coach Jay Wright his 400th win at the school.

Markus Howard had 37 points and eight assists for Marquette, three nights after scoring a Big East record-tying 52 points at Providence.

West Virginia 89, Oklahoma 76 — In Morgantown, W. Va., Teddy Allen scored 20 points off the bench, Sagaba Konate had 14 of his 16 points in the second half and the No. 6 Mountainee­rs (14-1, 3-0 Big 12) handled the No. 7 Sooners (122, 2-1).

Lamont West and Jevon Carter added 17 points apiece for WVU.

Oklahoma freshman Trae Young, the nation’s scoring and assists leader, finished with 29 points.

Virginia 61, No. Carolina 49 — In Charlottes­ville, Va., Devon Hall scored 16 points and the No. 8 Cavaliers (14-1, 3-0 ACC) held the No. 12 Tar Heels (12-4, 1-2) to their second-lowest point total of the season.

Hall had seven assists for UVA, and De’Andre Hunter had 10 points and seven rebounds. The Cavs won their sixth in a row and sent the Heels to consecutiv­e losses for the first time since February 2016.

Kansas 88, TCU 84 — In Fort Worth, Texas, Devonte Graham scored 28 points with eight straight free throws in the final 2:02 as the No. 10 Jayhawks (12-3, 2-1 Big 12) held on to drop the No. 16 Horned Frogs (13-2, 1-2).

Vladimir Brodziansk­y had eight straight points for TCU to tie the game at 77-all before Marcus Garrett’s two tiebreakin­g free throws put the Jayhawks ahead to stay with 3 minutes left.

LSU 69, Texas A&M 68 — In College Station, Texas, Tremont Waters scored 21 points, including an off-balance 3-pointer with 1 second remaining, to lift the Tigers (10-4, 1-1 SEC) over the No. 11 Aggies (114, 0-3).

Purdue 74, Nebraska 62 — In West Lafayette, Ind., Vincent Edwards scored 21 points and Isaac Haas added 14 to lead the No. 13 Boilermake­rs (15-2, 4-0 Big Ten) past the Cornhusker­s (11-6, 2-2) for their 11th consecutiv­e win.

Purdue extended its home-court winning streak to 18 and won its 10th straight home game against a conference foe.

Colorado 80, Arizona 77 — In Boulder, Colo., McKinley Wright IV scored 16 points to lead five players in double figures, and the Buffaloes (10-6, 2-2 Pac 12) held off the No. 14 Wildcats (12-4, 2-1) to end their nine-game winning streak.

It’s the second straight game in which Colorado has knocked off a ranked team. It defeated No. 4 Arizona State, 90-81, in overtime Thursday.

Tennessee 76, Kentucky 65 — In Knoxville, Tenn., Admiral Schofield had 20 points and nine rebounds and the No. 23 Volunteers (10-4, 1-2) rallied to beat the No. 17 Wildcats (12-3, 2-1).

This marks the third consecutiv­e season that Tennessee has beaten Kentucky in Knoxville.

Texas Tech 74, Kansas St. 58 — In Lubbock, Texas, Keenan Evans scored 27 points and the No. 18 Red Raiders (14-1, 3-0 Big 12) beat the Wildcats (11-4, 1-2) to back up their big win at Kansas earlier in the week.

Gonzaga 85, Loyola Marymount 66 — In Los Angeles, Johnathan Williams scored 30 points and the No. 19 Bulldogs (14-3, 4-0 WCC) opened the second half with a 17-0 run to roll past the Lions (5-10, 0-4).

Seton Hall 90, Butler 87 — In Indianapol­is, Khadeen Carrington scored 29 points, Angel Delgado had 28 points and 15 rebounds and the No. 21 Pirates (14-2, 3-0 Big East) rallied from an 11-point deficit to defeat the Bulldogs (12-5, 2-2) to win their fifth straight game.

Auburn 88, Arkansas 77 — In Auburn, Ala., Mustapha Heron scored 17 points and the Tigers (14-1, 2-0 SEC) fended off a late comeback attempt to secure a win over the No. 22 Razorbacks (11-4, 1-2) — Auburn’s 12th consecutiv­e win.

Clemson 74, Louisville 69 — In Clemson, S.C., Marcquise Reed scored 24 points and Elijah Thomas had 12 points, 10 rebounds and five blocks to lead the No. 25 Tigers (14-1, 3-0 ACC) over the Cardinals (11-4, 1-1) in overtime.
