MAKING THEIR POINTS

-

The 200-point club for girls hockey has gained two new members already this season.

Methuen/Tewksbury senior Kelly Golini was the first to reach the milestone with both goals in a Red Rangers 2-1 victory against Haverhill / Pentucket/ North Andover on Dec. 13. The Dream Team forward from Tewksbury has nine goals and four assists in seven games this season, giving her 211 points for her career that started with the coop program as a seventhgrader. However, she is in just her fifth season with the Red Rangers, having played junior hockey during her freshman season.

Golini still is trying to chase down the Red Rangers’ all-time scoring mark of 243 points set by Amanda Conway in 2015. Meanwhile, Milton’s Julia Scannell added both a school record and the 200-point milestone to her list of achievements in back-to-back games. Scannell broke the previous Milton record of 195 points during the Wildcats’ victory against Latin Academy/Fontbonne on Dec. 14. Just two days later, she surpassed the 200-point mark with a hat trick and two assists in a win against Framingham.

An All-Scholastic last season, Scannell led the state in scoring (11-13-24) among girls players entering yesterday.

With the additions of Golini and Scannell, there have been 29 girls players to score at least 200 points in Massachusetts history, but that list could grow again soon. All-Scholastic senior Kat Nikolopoulos of Burlington entered the weekend just one shy of the mark (94-105-199).
