Suspect sought in hit-and-run turns self in
A 33-year-old woman who was being sought in connection with a deadly hit-and-run accident in Centerville on Friday will be arraigned today in Barnstable District Court.
Sarah Hunt, 33, of Centerville turned herself in to the Barnstable Police Department Saturday at 3 p.m., cops said, and admitted to detectives that she was the driver during the accident and left the scene.
Hunt’s damaged 2000 Toyota Camry was found in the garage of her home by detectives, cops said.
Barnstable police identified the victim of the hit-and-run as 62-year-old John Pina of Centerville, who was crossing the street in the area of Route 28 near the Bell Tower Mall Friday evening when he was struck by a motor vehicle about 7:50 p.m.
Pina was transported to Cape Cod Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, cops said. Members of the Cape Cod Regional Motor Vehicle Crash Reconstruction team were called to the scene of the crash Friday night and began investigating.
Witnesses told police that they saw a light brown Toyota sedan and the driver was a white woman with brown hair. They told police that she got out of her car and checked on the victim before driving away.
Hunt is being charged with a motor vehicle homicide by negligent operation count, a count of leaving the scene of an accident after death and a count of operating a motor vehicle with an open container.
