UMA’S PULP NONFICTION

Hub-born star makes Broadway debut

-

Thanks to “Pulp Fiction,” we already knew that Uma Thurman can dance. But the Boston-born actress has been blossoming during her Broadway debut.

Thurman has been working like a maniac since November, performing eight shows a week at New York’s Hudson Theatre. And during each 90-minute performance, she’s onstage the entire time.

“I’m onstage — if I’m a good girl — 94 minutes and not more,” Thurman said on “LIVE with Kelly and Ryan” while discussing her Broadway debut in “The Parisian Woman.” “I get in trouble when I take my time. We keep it going.”

“We have no intermission. It’s relentless,” she continued. “I go into a little black box, and two people tear off my clothes and redress me and try to fix my face, and I go right back out.”

But you won’t find her complaining. The Golden Globewinning actress is completely comfortable on Broadway, even if she has only one take to get it right.

“For my style of acting, it’s a great medium for me,” she said. “It’s exhilarating. It’s really taxing sometimes, but I’m not bored.”

“The Parisian Woman,” which was written by “House of Cards” creator Beau Willimon, also stars Josh Lucas (famous for his roles in “Sweet Home Alabama” and “The Mysteries of Laura”), Tony-winner Blair Brown (“Orange Is The New Black”), Marton Csokas (“Into the Badlands”) and Tony-nominee Phillipa Soo (“Amélie” and “Hamilton”).

The production takes place in Washington, D.C., after the 2016 election. Thurman plays the lead, a socialite named Chloe who’s dealing with different aspects of life, including the politics around her, her marriage, her past and the future that awaits.

“What’s so fun about it is it’s set in this exact moment, so it’s almost real time,” she said.

“It’s political, it’s emotional, it’s about complex relationships.”
