Occeus works overtime in NU triumph

Shawn Occeus scored 15 points including four in overtime that put Northeaste­rn in the lead for good in an 81-77 win over UNC Wilmington last night during a Colonial Athletic Associatio­n game in Wilmington, N.C.

The Huskies (11-7, 4-2) trailed by two in the overtime period when Occeus made a layup and two foul shots to put NU on top for good, 76-74, with 1:28 remaining against the Seahawks (5-13, 2-4).

Northeaste­rn never trailed in regulation after the game’s first three minutes and led 68-65 with a second to play when Devon Begley fouled UNC Wilmington’s Ty Taylor who went to the line and made all three of his free throws to tie the game 68-68 and send it into overtime.

Tomas Murphy scored a career-best 17 points off the bench for the Huskies. Vasa Pusica had 12 points, six rebounds and five assists and Maxime Boursiquot had 11 points.

URI 87, St. Bonaventur­e 73 — E.C. Matthews had 20 points with nine rebounds, Jeff Dowtin had 18 points with nine assists and the Rams (13-3, 5-0) pulled away from the Bonnies (12-5, 2-3) in an Atlantic 10 game in Kingston, R.I.

Albany 84, Maine 66 — Joe Cremo scored 19 of his 22 in the first half and the Black Bears (4-15, 1-3) couldn’t recover against the Great Danes (14-5, 2-2) in an America East game in Orono, Maine.

Maryland-Baltimore County 89, UMass-Lowell 62 — Jarius Lyles scored 21 points and K.J. Maura added 17 on 6-of-7 shooting, including 5-of-6 from 3-point range, to help the Retrievers (12-7, 3-1 America East) beat the River Hawks (6-10, 0-3) in Lowell.

UConn 67, Tulane 57 — In New Orleans, Jalen Adams scored 20 of his 25 points in the second half as the Huskies (10-2, 3-2) defeated the Green Wave (11-6, 2-3) in the American Athletic Conference.

Marist 95, Fairfield 89 — In Poughkeeps­ie, N.Y., Tyler Nelson hit five 3-pointers and scored a season-high 35 points for the Stags (6-11, 1-5), but the Red Foxes (4-13, 2-3) prevailed in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference.

Vermont 73, Stony Brook 62 — Trae Bell-Haynes scored 20 points and Payton Henson and Ernie Duncan each scored 12 and the Catamounts (13-5, 3-0 America East) beat Seawolves (7-11, 2-2) in Burlington, Vt.

Women’s basketball

UConn 95, Houston 35 — Azura Stevens had 19 points and 10 rebounds off the bench as the topranked Huskies (15-0, 5-0 American) dominated the Cougars (14-5, 3-2) in Houston.

Holy Cross 60, BU 57 — Senior Infiniti Thomas-Waheed of Newton scored 15 points to spark the Crusaders (8-9, 3-3) to a Patriot League win over the host Terriers (8-9, 3-3) at Case Gym.

Saint Joseph’s 84, UMass 79 — Bre Hampton-Bey had a gamebest and career-high 26 points and former Boston Latin star Maggie Mulligan contribute­d seven blocks for the Minutewome­n (8-9, 0-4) but the Hawks (9-8, 4-1) rallied to this Atlantic 10 win at the Mullins Center in Amherst.

Amherst 66, Wesleyan 51 — Madeline Eck scored 15 points and grabbed seven rebounds while teammate Hannah Hackley fo Westford contribute­d 11 points for the Division 3 top-ranked Mammoths (16-0, 3-0) in a NESCAC win over the Cardinals (9-5, 1-3) in Middletown, Conn.

Tufts 61, Middlebury 45 — Emily Briggs had 16 points and teammate Erica DeCandido chipped in 15 points plus 10 rebounds for the No.8 Jumbos (14-2, 3-1) in a NESCAC win over the Panthers (12-4, 2-2) in Medford.

Men’s hockey

Boston University 2, Providence 2 — Bobo Carpenter of North Reading notched both goals for the Terriers (9-11-2, 7-7-2) in a Hockey East tie with the 11th-ranked Friars (15-7-2, 8-4-2) at Agganis Arena.

UMass 6, Vermont 3 — Niko Hildenbran­d scored twice to help the Minutemen (10-9-1, 4-5-1) past the Catamounts (4-14-4, 1-8-3) in Burlington, Vt.

Harvard 2, Quinnipiac 2 — Ryan Donato notched his 17th goal of the season with 3:27 to play in the third period as the Crimson (86-3, 7-3-2) claimed an ECAC tie with the Bobcats (8-12-3, 4-7-3) at Bright-Landry Hockey Center.

Army 4, Bentley 0 — Michael Wilson had three goals for the Black Knights (9-10-4, 7-7-4) in an Atlantic Hockey win over the Falcons (79-5, 4-7-4) in West Point, N.Y.

Women’s hockey

Boston College 5, Northeaste­rn 4 — Defender Toni Ann Miano scored four goals, including the game-winner in overtime, to propel the No. 2 Eagles (19-2-3, 13-1-3) to a Women’s Hockey East victory over the Huskies (12-10-2, 8-71) at Matthews Arena.
