QUARTERBACK

-

For two weeks, Tom Brady was questioned about alleged pettiness and his involvement in the departure of Jimmy Garoppolo. He deflected all queries and went about his business, which was undressing the Titans on a frigid Saturday night. Brady exploited Tennessee's seasonlong weaknesses covering backs and tight ends, throwing to the former 17 times on 53 pass attempts and the latter 10. He made deft use of running back James White on his TD throw to wide-open receiver Chris Hogan in the back of the end zone. Tennessee doubled White at the goal line, forcing the free safety to vacate the deep area. Cornerback Tye Smith missed a jam on Hogan at the line, and Brady found him for an easy 4-yard score on third down. It was like that all night. Brady continued to struggle connecting with Brandin Cooks (three catches on nine targets), but the understanding issue mostly is on the receiver. When Brady went to the hurry-up, he tore the Titans secondary apart, and whenever he needed to vary things, he just threw to Danny Amendola in favorable matchups, completing 11-of-13 passes to him. Brady made a tremendous cross-body throw after eluding pressure to create space and time on a third-and-10. He also made a quick read and release to beat pressure on thirdand-5, drilling White on a quick slant for a first down. His 337 passing yards and three TDs (one of the cheap variety to White) added to his career postseason records.
