- By LAUREL J. SWEET

A Dracut man will be charged with trying to kill a woman in his home yesterday morning, authorities said.

James “Jim” O’Neil, 59, has not yet been arrested or arraigned due to serious injuries he suffered in an early morning car crash yesterday after authorities say he stabbed a woman “known to him” in his house on Sesame Street.

Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan’s office said the victim is in her 50s, but declined to otherwise identify her.

The victim, Ryan’s office said, remains hospitalized in serious condition.

O’Neil will be arraigned on a date to be determined on charges of assault with intent to murder, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon and domestic assault and battery.

Dracut police yesterday declined to release any history of calls for service to the green fourbedroom colonial on Sesame Street, citing the open probe.

The property is owned by O’Neil and his wife, according to town records and James Abramofsky, a longtime friend of the couple, who came to the house yesterday to see if they were OK. Abramofsky, 60, of Dracut said the couple have two adult children.

“I just hope they’re all right,” Abramofsky said. He described the O’Neils as fun-loving and fond of outdoor entertaining.

There is no history of restraining orders against O’Neil on file in Lowell District Court.
