Country star remembers roots

Grammy winner set to play Back Bay benefit

-

You can take the girl out of Massachusetts, but you can’t take the Massachusetts out of the girl. At least that’s the case with Grammy-winning singer-songwriter Lori McKenna, who’s taking a break from her busy Nashville schedule to perform in Back Bay.

On Jan. 25, the Stoughton native will be grabbing her guitar and playing at Church of the Covenant of Newbury Street in a concert benefiting the local day shelter, Women’s Lunch Place.

McKenna has made herself a major name in the country music community. Her songs have been cut by members of Nashville royalty, including Faith Hill, Keith Urban, Alison Krauss, Reba McEntire and Hunter Hayes. She’s loaned her lyrics to chart-topping hits, like Tim McGraw’s “Humble and Kind” and Little Big

Town’s “Girl Crush,” both of

which earned her Grammys in the category of Best Country Song.

But that’s not all. She’s also bagged an Academy of Country Music Award for Songwriter of The Year and a Country Music

Association Award for Song of The Year. Not bad for a country gal by way of Norfolk County.

The concert, which will take place within the church’s historic sanctuary, kicks off at 7 p.m. and will wind down at 8:30 p.m. Ticket prices range from $35 for general admission to $235 for added VIP perks such as an after-party, and they can be purchased online through Women’s Lunch Place’s website. Proceeds will help the Back Bay organization in its efforts to provide a safe space for all self-identifying women combating homelessness and poverty.
