The Case boys indoor track team relied on quality and not quantity to capture its first Division 5 Coaches Relay title yesterday at the Reggie Lewis Center.

The shot put threesome of Brandon Badnarik, Paul Sousa and first-team newcomer Issac Tucker was victorious with a combined distance of 120 feet, 1 inch. The Cardinals also picked up silver medals in the 4x50-meter and 4x200-meter relays behind the speed of Kyle Koehler, Noah Couitt, Nick Viverous and Antonio Luna.

The high jump team of Koehler, Couitt and Luna also nailed down a second-place finish, as Case totaled 34 points to edge East Bridgewater and AyerShirley (28 points).

“The reason we won is that we didn’t get fifths and sixths,” Case coach Bob Mitchell said. “By definition we’re a small school and there were a bunch of events we didn’t compete in. We were sixth last year and a couple of teams moved up (a division), so we were confident we’d be in the top five.”

Watertown’s 4x400 squad had the lone meet record on the boys side, as its 3:34.07 bettered the 3:34.34 mark set in 2014 by Newburyport.

The Seekonk girls shot put squad also bettered its year-old meet record, as Cammey Garabian, Ashleigh Wyrostek and Kathleen Santos combined for a 101-33⁄4 mark. That edged out the 101-1 the same threesome put up last winter. Wyrostek had a big day in the shot put circle with a personal best toss of 35-11⁄4.

It was the Amesbury girls, though, who put up the numbers with wins in the 4x200 (1:50.59), 4x50 (25.41), 4x50 hurdles (32.30) and long jump (4411⁄4) to capture the girls team title with 51 points.

Littleton was second with 35 points, while Austin Prep and Ursuline tied for third with their 22 points. Littleton broke its year-old meet record in the 4x800, with a time of 9:54.7.

Boys hockey

Behind a balanced attack, BC High beat St. John’s Prep, 4-1, in a huge Catholic Conference matchup at UMassBoston to win its seventh game in a row.

Tim Kelly, Andrew McDonough, Thomas Kramer and Matt Lakus got the goals for BC High (8-3-1), while Joseph Kramer and Sean Healy each added two assists.

David Sacco netted the lone goal for St. John’s Prep (6-3-1).

Boys basketball

Billy Whelan dropped 23 points and collected 10 rebounds to help Hamilton-Wenham (7-2) get past Georgetown, 64-53, in the Cape Ann League.

Dom Black had 18 points, 12 rebounds and five blocks as Arlington (9-1) took a 6854 win over Woburn in the Middlesex League.

In a nonleague tilt, Adam Seablom had 20 points for Apponequet in a 56-36 victory against Dartmouth . . . . Chris Canela poured in 32 points as Peabody (6-4) escaped Bishop Fenwick, 5453 . . . . Dante Law posted 15 points to lead Taunton (8-5) to a 65-61 defeat of Coyle & Cassidy.
