Not in the Cards for Eagles

Deng Adel had all 18 points and 10 rebounds after halftime, including a late free throw that helped Louisville hold off Boston College, 77-69, in men’s basketball yesterday in Louisville, Ky., for its fourth consecutiv­e victory.

The Cardinals’ 12-2 surge just after the break propelled them COLLEGES to a 46-33 lead that eventually reached 18 with 3:57 remaining. The Eagles weren’t done and stormed back within 71-69 on Jordan Chatman’s 3 with 33 seconds left. After King’s two free throws made it a four-point game, Chatman’s long-range attempt bounced off the rim and out of bounds.

Ryan McMahon then made two from the line before King made two more to seal the tense win. Adel’s free throw was the first of 10 Louisville (15-4, 5-1 ACC) made to close the game.

King finished with 15 points, and Jordan Nwora had 15 for the Cardinals.

Jerome Robinson had 19 points, Ky Bowman 16 and Nik Popovic and Chatman 12 each for BC (13-7, 3-4), which had its two-game winning streak stopped.

UMass-Lowell 79, Binghamton 71 — In Binghamton, N.Y., Matt Harris scored 24 points, Josh Gantz added 19 and the River Hawks (7-12, 1-5 America East) bounced the Bearcats (10-11, 1-5).

Emory 90, Brandeis 57 — In Waltham, Eric D’Aguanno scored 13 points off the bench but the Judges (4-12, 0-5 UAA) couldn’t sentence the No. 17 Eagles (14-2, 5-0).

Middlebury 87, Pine Manor 62 — In Chestnut Hill, Jack Daly had 18 points and 11 boards as the Panthers (14-3) routed the Gators (7-9). In top 25 action:

Virginia 59, Wake Forest 49 — In Winston-Salem, N.C., Kyle Guy scored 17 points, and the No. 2 Cavaliers (18-1, 7-0 ACC) topped the Demon Deacons (8-11, 1-6) for their 10th straight win.

De’Andre Hunter added 16 points to help first-place UVA extend its longest winning streak since 2015-16 and open league play with seven victories for the second time in four years.

Michigan 62, Rutgers 47 — In Ann Arbor, Mich., Moe Wagner scored 16 points and Duncan Robinson added 12 to lift the No. 23 Wolverines (17-5, 6-3 Big Ten) over the Scarlet Knights (12-9, 2-6).

Miami 86, N.C. State 81 — In Raleigh, N.C., Roxbury’s Bruce Brown scored 19 points and the No. 25 Hurricanes (14-4, 3-3 ACC) shot 58 percent to hold off the Wolfpack (13-7, 3-4).

Women’s basketball

NU 64, William & Mary 46 — Claudia Ortiz scored 19 points to lead the Huskies (9-9, 4-3 CAA) over the Tribe (12-6, 3-4) at Cabot Center. Gabby Giacone added 14 points and 12 rebounds for Northeaste­rn.

Miami 65, BC 43 — At Conte Forum, Georgia Pineau finished with 16 points but the Eagles (613, 1-5 ACC) were unable to keep up with the Hurricanes (14-6, 4-3).

UConn 113, Temple 57 — In Philadelph­ia, Kia Nurse scored 24 points and freshman Megan Walker added a career-best 22 to help the No. 1 Huskies (18-0, 7-0 AAC) ease past the Owls (9-9, 1-5).

Women’s hockey

BU 2, UConn 2 — In Storrs, Conn., Deziray De Sousa scored early in the third period to help the Terriers (8-13-6, 4-10-5) knot the Huskies (7-11-8, 1-10-5).
