PAPI BACK AT BAT FOR ROAD WIN
You can take David Ortiz out of the Hub, but you can’t keep the former Red Sox slugger away.
The David Ortiz Children’s Fund, a nonprofit that the player personally founded, has announced that it will once again be taking part in the Boston Marathon. Not only will it send a squad of 12
“pinch runners” to this year’s race, but it will also offer some sweet incentives to folks who want to support its efforts, without having to run an insane distance. Through its newly launched #PinchHit4Papi, people who make a minimum donation of $150 to Team Papi will receive a four-night stay at the Casa de Campo Resort and Villas in La Romana, Dominican Republic. The hotel might sound familiar, as it was also the site of last year’s David Ortiz Celebrity Golf Classic.
More humble contributions to the cause will get you perks less extravagant than a tropical getaway. For instance, you can snag a limited edition David Ortiz Yankee Candle — we don’t know what it smells like, but can only assume victory — and exclusive “Still Our City” merchandise.
The David Ortiz Children’s Fund works with MassGeneral Hospital for Children and CEDIMAT Hospital in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, to help children in both areas who don’t have access to pediatric health care services that they need.
Through this year’s #PinchHit4Papi campaign, Team Papi is working to raise $170,000 by the Boston Marathon on April 16. The funds will be used toward heart surgeries for 34 children.
