Robinson scores 46, but BC falls short

T.J. Gibbs scored 22 firsthalf points and finished with a career-high 28 as Notre Dame overcame a recordsett­ing effort by Boston College’s Jerome Robinson and ended its longest losing streak in nine years with a 9685 victory against the Eagles last night in South Bend, Ind.

Robinson finished with 46 points, shattering the 40-year-old standard for an opponent at Purcell Pavilion. Lowes Moore scored 40 points for West Virginia in January 1978.

Matt Farrell had 19 points and seven assists, and Martinas Geben added 16 points and 11 rebounds, as the Fighting Irish (14-10, 4-7 ACC) halted their skid at seven games.

Robinson, a junior,was 15of-23 shooting, with seven 3-pointers, and 9-of-9 at the stripe. Ky Bowman scored 11 points and Steffon Mitchell grabbed 11 rebounds for BC (14-10, 4-7).

Providence 73, Georgetown 69 — Kyron Cartwright and Jalen Lindsey sank four free throws in the final seconds and the Friars (16-8, 7-4 Big East) scored the final nine points of a win against the Hoyas (1310, 3-9) in Providence.

Stonehill 93, St. Michael’s 71 — Will Moreton scored 30 points, Brandon Twitty added 25 and the Skyhawks (14-9, 10-7 Northeast-10) made 16 3-pointers in a rout of the Purple Knights (5-17, 2-15) in Colchester, Vt.

Assumption 70, Saint Anselm 67 — Joe Sullivan had 21 points, 10 rebounds and five assists as the Greyhounds (7-16, 3-14 NE-10) upset the first-place Hawks (17-6, 12-5) in Worcester.

Middlebury 79, SUNYCanton 57 — Matt Folger’s 16 points and nine rebounds carried the Panthers (19-3), ranked No. 5 in Division 3, past the Kangaroos (7-15) in Canton, N.Y.

In Top 25 action: Michigan State 96, Iowa 93 — In Iowa City, Iowa, Miles Bridges had 25 points and a crucial steal with five seconds left as the fourthrank­ed Spartans (23-3, 11-2 Big Ten) rallied past the lowly Hawkeyes (12-14, 3-10) for their seventh straight win.

Xavier 98, Butler 93 — Trevon Bluiett scored 17 of his 26 points in the final 14A minutes of regulation and overtime to help the No. 5 Musketeers (22-3, 10-2 Big East) rally past the Bulldogs (17-8, 7-5) in Indianapol­is.

Cincinnati 77, Central Florida 40 — Kyle Washington scored 13 points, Gary Clark added 12 and the No.6 Bearcats (22-2, 11-0 American) gave another dominating defensive performanc­e in their 15th straight win, crushing the Golden Knights (14-9, 5-6) in Highland Heights, Ky.

Kansas 71 TCU 64 — Devonte’ Graham scored 24 points, Udoka Azubuike added 16 and the No. 10 Jayhawks (19-5, 8-3 Big 12) held off the Horned Frogs (16-8, 4-7) in Lawrence, Kan.

Tennessee 61, Kentucky 59 — In Lexington, Ky., Lamonte Turner scored 16 points, including a clutch 3-pointer with 26 seconds remaining, and Admiral Schofield followed with a dunk off a turnover as the No. 15 Volunteers (18-5, 8-3 SEC) edged the No.24 Wildcats (17-7, 6-5) for their sixth consecutiv­e victory.

Northweste­rn 61, Michigan 52 — Bryant McIntosh tied a season high with 24 points, and the Wildcats (15-10, 6-6 Big Ten) beat the No. 20 Wolverines (19-7, 8-5) in Rosemont, Ill.

Wichita State 85, Memphis 65 — Austin Reaves scored 22 points, Landry Shamet added 20 points and five assists and the No.22 Shockers (18-5, 8-3 American) cruised past the Tigers (14-10, 5-6) in Memphis, Tenn.

Stonehill 68, St. Michael’s 54 — Kelly Martin (23 points, eight rebounds) and Courtney Walsh (17 points, seven rebounds) helped the Skyhawks (20-2, 16-1 NE-10), ranked No.22 in Division 2, beat the Purple Knights (814, 5-12) in Colchester, Vt.

UMass 5, Merrimack 2 — John Leonard scored twice and Jake McLaughlin potted an insurance goal in the third period as the Minutemen (12-16-1, 6-12-1 Hockey East) beat the Warriors (817-4, 5-13-2) in Amherst.

UMass-Lowell 4, AIC 0 — Chris Hernberg made 23 saves as the River Hawks (16-12-0) blanked the Yellow Jackets (10-17-4) in a nonleague clash in Lowell.

Middlebury 2, Norwich 2 — Jenna Marotta and Jessica Young scored as the No.4 Panthers (14-4-2) tied the No.1 Cadets (19-1-3) in Northfield, Vt.
