EXPERTS OFFER WAYS TO PROTECT OUR CHILDREN

after he was killed at Virginia Tech. It was a laminated quote from Washington Irving that read: ‘There is a sacredness in tears. They are not the mark of weakness, but of power. They speak more eloquently than ten thousand tongues. They are the messengers of overwhelming grief, of deep contrition, and of unspeakable love.’

This is getting to be too much. Honestly, I think unless it happens to them, (politicians) won’t do anything about it. The NRA is just too big an organization.

But we need to do something. We need to teach children when they are young — even beginning in kindergarten — to be more alert and aware of guns. Most people are responsible gun owners, but some are not.

We also need to crack down on loopholes that allow people to buy weapons at gun shows or in other states.

It’s gotten so out of hand. We need to tell kids ‘Do not touch a gun! Report it!’ And also if they hear something, do something.

Most of these shooters have shown signs that something isn’t right. It’s further proof how mental health in this country has gone downhill.

We need to get to these troubled kids while they are still young. And we need to show that needing help with a mental illness shouldn’t be a stigma.

I haven’t even watched the news today about the Florida high school shooting. It’s just taken me back to the day I lost Ross.

I’ll write those letters as I did for the school shooting in Kentucky. It’s what I do. It’s all I can do.
