ANY WAY THE WIND BLOWS
Unseasonable warmth to follow snow
If you don’t like today’s weather in New England, forget the fiveminute rule of thumb and just wait three days.
Temperatures are forecast to soar into the low 60s in Boston Tuesday and climb into the mid 60s by Wednesday.
“It’s definitely above normal temperatures,” National Weather Service meteorologist Lenore Correia said.
But it may not be the light at the end of the winter tunnel just yet.
“It’s more of how the weather pattern is setting up,” Correia said. “I don’t think it’s anything on a grander scheme.”
Both days are expected to be mostly cloudy with “maybe a little bit of sun peeking through,” she said.
It’s unlikely anyone will complain after a fast-moving storm system was expected to blow through the state overnight, dumping up to 7 inches of snow in southeastern Massachusetts and parts of Worcester County.
Communities expected to be hardest hit include Springfield, Worcester, Plymouth, Foxboro, Fall River and New Bedford.
Much of the cold-weary commonwealth, including metro Boston, Essex and Middlesex counties, as well as Martha’s Vineyard, were under a winter weather advisory overnight. Those areas were expected to be digging out of 4 to 6 inches of snow this morning.
Forecast snowfall totals on Cape Cod varied wildly from 2 to 6 inches.
