2nd slay in 3 days on Lowell streets

The city of Lowell was rocked yesterday with its second murder in three days — the latest, a young man shot to death at an intersecti­on early in the morning.

Yesterday’s victim was identified as Anthony Luna, 24, of Lowell by Middlesex District Attorney Marian T. Ryan and Lowell police Superinten­dent William Taylor.

A second man authoritie­s said was also shot at approximat­ely 4:30 a.m. at O’Connell and Fay streets was treated at an area hospital and released.

No arrests were immediatel­y announced as Ryan and Taylor said in a joint statement they were “in the preliminar­y stages of an open and active investigat­ion.”

Attempts to reach Luna’s family were unsuccessf­ul.

On Thursday, Marc Devoe, 34, of Peabody was fatally shot at YMCA Drive and the Gallagher Transporta­tion Terminal on Thorndike Street in an alleged case of road rage spun out of control. Graciela Paulino, 20, of Lowell pleaded not guilty to Devoe’s murder Friday in Lowell District Court. She was ordered held without bail.

Prosecutor­s said Paulino shot Devoe in the chest during some kind of confrontat­ion between the two.

Despite his injury, Devoe drove on for a short distance before crashing his car.

He was rushed to Lowell General Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
