2nd slay in 3 days on Lowell streets
The city of Lowell was rocked yesterday with its second murder in three days — the latest, a young man shot to death at an intersection early in the morning.
Yesterday’s victim was identified as Anthony Luna, 24, of Lowell by Middlesex District Attorney Marian T. Ryan and Lowell police Superintendent William Taylor.
A second man authorities said was also shot at approximately 4:30 a.m. at O’Connell and Fay streets was treated at an area hospital and released.
No arrests were immediately announced as Ryan and Taylor said in a joint statement they were “in the preliminary stages of an open and active investigation.”
Attempts to reach Luna’s family were unsuccessful.
On Thursday, Marc Devoe, 34, of Peabody was fatally shot at YMCA Drive and the Gallagher Transportation Terminal on Thorndike Street in an alleged case of road rage spun out of control. Graciela Paulino, 20, of Lowell pleaded not guilty to Devoe’s murder Friday in Lowell District Court. She was ordered held without bail.
Prosecutors said Paulino shot Devoe in the chest during some kind of confrontation between the two.
Despite his injury, Devoe drove on for a short distance before crashing his car.
He was rushed to Lowell General Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
