Brassard sparks Sens

The Ottawa Senators’ quick start led to an early exit for Rangers goalie Henrik Lundqvist.

Derick Brassard had a goal and two assists and the Senators defeated the New York Rangers, 6-3, yesterday in Ottawa.

Lundqvist allowed five goals on 27 shots before being replaced by Brandon Halverson with 13 minutes remaining.

Halverson stopped five of the six shots he faced for New York in his NHL debut.

Matt Duchene and Mark Stone both added a goal and an assist for Ottawa, which has won two straight. Craig Anderson also stopped 35 shots and Johnny Oduya, Magnus Paajarvi and Thomas Chabot also scored.

Chabot’s wraparound goal off Nick Holden’s skate at 7:27 of the third period put Ottawa ahead 5-2 and led to Lundqvist being pulled.

Golden Knights 6, Canadiens 3 — Reilly Smith had two goals and an assist to lead Vegas to a win over visiting Montreal.

Brad Hunt, Tomas Nosek, Ryan Carpenter, Nate Schmidt also scored for Vegas, while Jonathan Marchessau­lt had three assists. Marc-Andre Fleury stopped 30 shots.

Kings 4, Sabres 2 — Anze Kopitar and rookie Michael Amadio scored two goals each, and Los Angeles snapped a three-game skid with a win in Buffalo, N.Y.

Jonathan Quick stopped 33 shots and Dustin Brown had two assists.

Ducks 3, Wild 2 — Nick Ritchie scored in the 11th round of the shootout and John Gibson stopped seven straight shots in Anaheim’s victory over Minnesota in St. Paul, Minn.

After the teams combined for 13 straight misses, Ritchie beat Devan Dubnyk.

Gibson made 36 saves through overtime to help the Ducks move into a tie with the Wild for the second wild card slot.

Devils 4, Lightning 3 — Eddie Lack made his third appearance as the backup since being recalled from Binghamton of the AHL and made 48 saves as New Jersey won in Tampa.

Tampa Bay got goals from Chris Kunitz, Brayden Point and Steven Stamkos, and Andrei Vasilevski­y stopped 24 shots.

Coyotes 1, Oilers 0 — Antti Raanta made 39 saves for his first shutout of the season and Arizona won its fourth straight, scoring on its first shot in a victory over Edmonton in Glendale, Ariz.

Oliver Ekman-Larsson’s shot caromed off teammate Christian Dvorak’s skate at 3:26 of the first period for the Coyotes.

Red Wings 3, Predators 1 — Petr Mrazek stopped 30 shots to remain unbeaten against Nashville as visiting Detroit prevailed. Mrazek improved to 6-0-0 in his career against the Predators.

Defenseman Luke Witkowski scored his first NHL goal, Gustav Nyquist and Darren Helm also scored for the Red Wings, who beat Nashville for the seventh straight time.

Penguins 5, Maple Leafs 3— Olli Maatta scored the tiebreakin­g goal in the third period to lead host Pittsburgh to a victory over Toronto.

Evgeni Malkin had a goal and two assists to top 900 points for his career, becoming the sixth Russianbor­n and the fourth player in team history to reach the milestone.

Blackhawks 7, Capitals 1 — Jonathan Toews had a goal and two assists and Chicago ripped visiting Washington to end an eight-game losing streak.

Patrick Kane, Brandon Saad and Ryan Hartman each added a goal and an assist in a 44-shot attack.
