Six bikers arraigned in I-93 incident
Six Bay State men accused of recklessly driving their all-terrain vehicles down the Southeast Expressway Saturday were arraigned in connection with the joyride yesterday.
Josue Hidalgo, 23, of Worcester; William Suliveras, 29, of Methuen; Gustavo ArcenoRosa, 22, of Saugus; Christopher Cabassa, 31, of Lawrence; Edgar Dossantos, 30, of Quincy, and Shane Fein, 21 of North Attleboro, pleaded not guilty in Boston Municipal Court yesterday to a slew of driving charges stemming from the melee on Interstate 93.
Judge Michael Coyne maintained some of the bail amounts that had already been set by a bail commissioner at no more than $500, while ordering Cabassa, Dossantos, Arceno-Rosa and Fein released on their own recognizance. Some of the charges they face include reckless driving, negligent driving, disorderly conduct and failure to stop for police.
Hidalgo, Suliveras, Arceno-Rosa, Cabassa and Dossantos are also charged with resisting arrest.
State police say they decided to set up a roadblock after receiving numerous 911 calls from terrified motorists complaining about a pack of 25 to 30 ATV and dirt bike riders who were driving recklessly on Interstate 93, the Zakim Bridge and the O’Neill Tunnel.
Although many of the riders managed to escape the roadblock, seven were arrested and more than a dozen bikes and ATVs were seized, state police said.
Aderito Monteiro, 28, of Randolph, was arraigned Monday on charges of disorderly conduct, negligent driving and lane violations. Monteiro, who suffered a foot injury during his arrest, was ordered held on $2,000 bail.
The Suffolk District Attorney’s Office is investigating whether a trooper’s rifle bullet injured Monteiro’s foot. Authorities say they’re still awaiting medical records from Monteiro and ballistics testing before making any determinations.
