QB prospects heap praise on Brady

INDIANAPOLIS — Listening to several of the quarterbacks at the NFL scouting combine, it was like a Tom Brady lovefest.

“I’m sure any quarterback here would love to be the understudy to one of the greatest quarterbacks of all time,” Western Kentucky’s Mike White said.

White admitted he’s obsessed with the Patriots legend, who threw for more than 500 yards in Super Bowl LII at age 40.

“I really enjoy watching his film. The way he operates and the way he plays the game of football is unbelievable,” White said. “It shows how he wins all the time. I’ve tried to emulate my game after him. Whether I do or I don’t is up to your guys’ interpretation, but I just like watching his film because of the way he beats a defense before the ball is even snapped and how he’s constantly getting his offense into the right play. They’re never in a bad play with him because he’s always super prepared and he knows what he’s getting before the ball is even snapped. It’s a pleasure watching him play.”

Richmond’s Kyle Lauletta, another who like White might be on the Pats’ draft radar, would love it if he wound up in Foxboro as a backup to the G.O.A.T.

“That would be a dream come true. I think any quarterback would love to be in that position,” said Lauletta. “Learning from a guy like Tom Brady, you can learn so much just by the way he works and observing the way he goes about his business day to day. Wherever I am, I think I’ll be in a good spot. But that would definitely be a good one.”

Oklahoma State’s Mason Rudolph wouldn’t mind being a sponge for a few years behind Brady.

“That’d be obviously pretty darn cool. To learn from one of the best of all time and a football mind like Tom, and to be able to soak some of that knowledge up, some of that wisdom, would be a great opportunity,” Rudolph said. “But like I said, whatever team it is, I’m going to maximize my potential in my role and compete my butt off.”

Toledo’s Logan Woodside was another who characterized playing and learning from Brady as “a dream come true” if it were to happen.

Both Lauletta and Woodside indicated they had met with Patriots scouts had prior events, but had not been formally interviewed.
