Stone, Cohasset oust Cathedral

Thatcher Stone scored 27 points as No. 5 Cohasset survived a wild double overtime affair with 13thseeded Cathedral, defeating the Panthers, 91-87, to advance to the Div. 4 South semifinals.

Cathedral rallied from a 10-point deficit in the final 1:50 of regulation thanks to a bizarre seven-point run by Dillon Hendrickso­n Barros. Cohasset was hit with a technical after a foul on Hendrickso­nBarr os and he hit all four free throws, then drained a trey.

Cohasset (16-6) needed some drama of its own as freshman Liam Cunnie drilled a huge trey late in the first overtime to extend the game into a second extra session.

Elsewhere, Devaun Ford led a quartet of double-figure scorers with 28 points as No. 3 Mashpee coasted to a 79-60 victory over sixth-seeded Old Colony in a Div. 4 South quarterfin­al. Mike Fraser had 17 points, while Anthony Gonsalves recorded a double-double with 14 points and 12 rebounds for Mashpee (17-4). Jake Jason tallied 31 points and 15 rebounds for Old Colony (15-7).

In a Div. 4 North semifinal, Stephen Reddy went over the 1,000-point mark for his career with 16 points, while Denis Taylor and Ryan Andrews combined for 27 as No. 2 Austin Prep (18-4) held off third-seeded Mystic Valley, 52-48, Logan Bravo and Mitch Kennedy were forces off the glass, each grabbing 11 rebounds.

Senior Andrew Johnson had a double-double, scoring 28 points to go along with 11 rebounds in leading No. 1 Apponequet (22-0) to a 71-44 win over No. 13 Norwell, 71-44, in a Div. 3 South semifinal.

Lyron Bennett scored a game-high 18 points, while Walter Dew-Hollis added 14 points and 12 rebounds, as No. 1 TechBoston (21-1) rolled to a 76-46 victory over No. 8 Scituate in a Div. 2 South quarterfin­al.

John McCoy scored 18 of his game-high 25 points in the second half as top-seeded Mansfield (23-2) downed No. 4 Newton North, 70-50, in the Div. 1 South semifinals. Damani Scott added 23 points and 12 rebounds.

Girls basketball

Shyan Mwai scored 25 points, while teammate Nikeishla Yrrizarry added 15 as No. 6 Lowell (18-6) defeated third-seeded Masconomet, 57-48, in a Div. 1 North quarterfin­al. Morgan Bovardi scored a team-high 19 for the Chieftains (17-4).

Jayne Howe dropped 17 points and Katie Galligan had another 16 to lead No. 15 Pembroke (11-11) to the Div. 2 South semifinals for the first time in school history with a 51-42 victory over No. 7 Falmouth.

Lauren Beach’s basket with 17 seconds left gave No. 3 Medway (19-4) a 4645 win over No. 7 Nashoba in the Div. 2 Central semifinals . ... Ivy Gogolin and Kate Huebner hit key free throws in the final seconds as No. 4 Hopkinton (19-4) ensured an all Tri-Valley League final with a 43-39 win over No. 1 Groton-Dunstable.

Annabelle Larnard scored 22 points, while teammate Arielle Sauvignon-Howard, added 16 as No. 6 Fontbonne (18-4) defeated third-seeded Rockland, 59-37, in a Div. 3 South quarterfin­al.

Abbie Kurtzer led a balanced attack with 11 points as No. 4 Coyle-Cassidy (193) rolled to a 66-16 win over fifth-seeded Old Colony in a Div. 4 South quarterfin­al. Rachel Johnson, Kaylee Haynes and Sam Hourihan all had nine points, while Kassidy Fields added eight points and four rebounds for the Warriors.
