Ratings grab trashes show of integrity
Stormy interview defaces ‘60 Minutes’
Anderson Cooper should be ashamed that he took a treasured Sunday news program that has been the epitome of solid in-depth reporting and turned it into a trashy gossip show.
Porn star and alleged former lover of Donald Trump, Stormy Daniels was the marquee guest on “60 Minutes,” detailing her consensual relationship with Trump. Her mediahungry Hollywood attorney also made a cameo.
Families could not have the show on in the background while playing with their children because Cooper was more focused on a ratings grab than the integrity of the program. He was intent on digging for intimate details of the alleged bedroom romp in yet another example of the media’s crass obsession to take down Trump.
Bob Simon and Morley Safer probably rolled over in their graves. As a voter, who cares if Trump cheated on his wife more than a decade ago? He didn’t exactly run on family values given his multiple failed marriages. Americans believed in his business plan for the country.
No one should be shocked Trump hasn’t been faithful given what he said on the “Access Hollywood” tape about how he can grab women because he is so famous. But let gossip magazines cover the stories of Trump’s conquests, not the venerable “60 Minutes.”
What is a relevant news story is why Trump’s attorney paid Daniels $130,000 just before the election and whether it can be classified as an in-kind contribution. That is something election officials will have to decide, and Cooper did delve into ... before circling back to the boudoir.
No one knows why the payment was made because she signed a nondisclosure agreement that she possibly broke Sunday night. Stormy may need a GoFundMe page to pay for that flub. Certainly, Democrats could pitch in.
But Cooper lost his journalistic integrity by elevating a woman with a checkered past whose story has no known facts. You just have to trust her!
There is no proof Trump ever slept with her and to allow a porn star who has submitted several statements over the years denying sex claims to change her story and increase her name recognition while destroying a family is unthinkable.
When did it become OK to stop vetting the source more carefully before presenting such a salacious story to the millions of people watching? Apparently, when you hate Trump that much you are willing to get in bed with a girl who gets paid for her body of work, so to speak.
