Man dies in brazen Dorchester shooting
A man in his 30s is dead in a brazen daytime shooting off of Morton Street in Dorchester yesterday afternoon.
Police said they were called to the scene of Evans Street at about 3:56 p.m. for a person shot.
They located a male victim in a vehicle suffering from a gunshot wound.
The area was blocked off for a couple of hours as nearby residents surrounded the busy intersection.
Boston police Commissioner William B. Evans arrived on scene and said the shooting was “clearly targeted to the vehicle.”
“Another vehicle rolled up on it, fired shots into the vehicle, so clearly it’s not a random act,” Evans said.
“We’re going to look at cameras but we need the public’s help.”
A woman sobbing at the scene said the victim was “very protective of everyone” and was loved by everyone in the community.
Chunsu King, 45, of Dorchester said the neighborhood was “shocked” to hear about the shooting death of his friend.
“They’re just shooting anybody for anything now. He definitely wasn’t about any type of violence,” King said.
As of last night police had not identified the victim.
Anyone with information is asked to call the Boston Police Homicide Unit at 617-343-4470 or the Crime Stoppers Tip Line anonymously at 800-494TIPS.
Police are also on the lookout for the suspect in a fatal shooting Friday on Wayland Street in Dorchester.
“That’s two (shootings) in the last two days; it’s obviously troubling,” Evans said.
