Authorities investigating 2-alarm Gloucester blaze
Authorities are investigating the cause of an intense, two-alarm fire that destroyed a home overnight on Two Penny Lane in Gloucester.
Firefighters arrived on the scene about 11:20 p.m. Saturday to find the home fully ablaze, with flames exiting the structure in multiple directions, authorities said.
The Gloucester Fire Department decided to fight the fire from outside after it had determined that no one was inside the home.
Authorities said the exterior attack was also used to prevent the fire from spreading and to minimize flying embers and debris.
Fire from the home spread to the nearby grass and trees and a second alarm was struck to bring more manpower onto the scene, authorities said.
Essex, Manchester-by-the-Sea and Rockport fire departments assisted with the fire as Beverly, Ipswich and Hamilton departments provided station coverage for Gloucester.
One firefighter sustained an injury when a piece of burning debris landed on his neck, authorities said.
He continued to work on battling the flames and was later evaluated on scene, but was not hospitalized.
Authorities said the home appears to have been either under construction or renovation at the time of the fire.
A contractor’s trailer and a dumpster were found on site, but no civilians were injured, authorities said.
The state fire marshal’s office is assisting Gloucester fire and police departments during this investigation.
