Luck opens up about his shoulder

-

Andrew Luck said all the right things yesterday.

He feels good, hopes to be full go when training camp begins and believes he will be a better quarterback when he returns.

All he has to do now is prove it.

For the first time in more than three months, Luck fielded questions about his surgically repaired right shoulder and explained his longer-than-expected recovery might have been the result of his desire to come back too quickly.

“I think I pushed a little too hard at times. Your body, as I’m learning, will tell you no at certain times and you just have to listen to it,” Luck said as the Colts offseason workouts began.

Luck didn’t go into specifics about what he should have done differently after initially hurting the shoulder in September 2015. He missed two games then made four straight starts before suffering a seasonending liver injury in November. Luck opted against surgery that offseason and signed a five-year, $140 million contract extension.

In 2016, he started 15 games and had his best statistical season despite continued pain. But he hasn’t taken a snap since having surgery for a partially torn labrum in January 2017, and he still isn’t throwing regulation-sized footballs. He spent the a month seeking additional medical opinions before moving his rehab to Europe.

“If I wasn’t making progress, it would freak me out and we would have to change something, but I am,” he said. “I’m feeling better.”

Cowboys ink Ealy

The Dallas Cowboys signed defensive end Kony Ealy to a one-year deal.

Ealy spent last season with the New York Jets after he was waived by the Patriots during training camp. The 6-foot-4, 275-pound Ealy had one sack with the Jets to give him 15 in his four-year career . . . .

The Detroit Lions bolstered their backup options at quarterback and wide receiver. Detroit signed Matt Cassel, adding depth behind starting quarterback Matthew Stafford, and resigned restricted free agent TJ Jones . .. .

The Jets signed free agent wide receiver Charles Johnson and linebacker Kevin Minter. Johnson becomes the 17th receiver on the Jets’ roster. Minter played for Cincinnati last season.

Packer WR arrested

Police say Green Bay Packers wide receiver Trevor Davis was arrested after falsely claiming to have explosives while checking in for a flight at Los Angeles International Airport. Davis was charged with making a false bomb threat and released with a summons to appear in court.

Authorities said Davis was checking in when an airline employee asked whether he had explosives in his bag. Davis said “yes” and asked a woman he was traveling with, “Did you pack the explosives?”

Police were called and Davis was arrested. The woman wasn’t charged.
