Boston College has a new women’s basketball coach. Joanna Bernabei-McNamee will take the reins of the program after leading Albany to back-to-back 20-win seasons.

McNamee replaces Erik Johnson, who resigned last month.

“We are thrilled to welcome Joanna and her family to The Heights,” director of athletics Martin Jarmond said. “She is a proven head coach who can recruit and develop student-athletes, and who has shown she can win at the highest level.”

McNamee led Albany to a 4519 record during her two years as head coach. In 2016-17, she guided the Great Danes to the America East tournament title and a spot in the NCAA tournament. This past season, Albany finished 24-8 and participated in the WNIT.

“I am grateful for this amazing opportunity,” McNamee said. “Boston College has a nationally renowned reputation, and I am honored to be a part of it.” . . .
