Newsroom promotions at Boston Herald
New roles for several staffers
Six Boston Herald newsroom leaders have been appointed to key editorial positions, the paper announced today.
“We’re proud to have such an impressive bench of highly skilled and talented journalists as our colleagues,” said Editor in Chief Joe Sciacca.
“This team will bring passion, creativity and commitment to move the Herald forward with the excellence and distinctive voice that defines our news organization.’
The appointments include: • Jules Crittenden as managing editor for news. With more than three decades as a newspaperman in Massachusetts, including 25 years as a reporter and editor at the Herald, Crittenden has covered crime, politics, science, national security and other issues here and abroad. He rode with U.S. troops as an embedded journalist in the invasion of Iraq.
• Diane Broderick as managing editor for production. Broderick, who joined the Herald in 2005, has served as Page One editor and a longtime member of the copy desk. Broderick previously worked as a copy editor and Page One editor at The Standard-Times in New Bedford.
• Tom Shattuck as editorial page editor. Shattuck came to the Herald in 2013 from the world of talk radio where he served as executive producer at WRKO and a producer at WTKK. He has served as executive producer of the award-winning Boston Herald Radio and as a columnist.
• Bruce Castleberry as deputy managing editor for news. Castleberry most recently served as deputy managing editor for production. Prior to joining the Herald in 2013, he had been a reporter and editor at The Dallas Morning News and was vice president at Edelman public relations in Los Angeles.
• Bryan Lantz as deputy managing editor for production. Serving on the copy desk since 2016, Lantz previously worked at the Cape Cod Times as a reporter, copy editor, systems editor and business editor.
• Todd Prussman as executive city editor. A 12-year Herald veteran, Prussman served as senior web editor, handling the Herald’s internet presence and social media accounts. He was previously a reporter at the Newburyport Daily News and Haverhill Gazette.
