Cops make arrest in fatal stabbing near Garden
The man allegedly responsible for carrying out a deadly stabbing on a busy downtown street Monday night as crowds of concertgoers walked by has been arrested, police said.
Mark Love, 55, of Boston was arrested yesterday and is expected to be arraigned on a murder charge today in Boston Municipal Court, police said. Hub police continue to investigate what led to the stabbing Monday night.
Police Commissioner William B. Evans told reporters yesterday that investigators suspected the stabbing was the result of a fight between two homeless men. He also said the injured man had been wounded for about 30 minutes before 911 was called and officers were able to get to him.
The identity of the deceased man, who police say was in his 50s, was not released yesterday. Police say the man was found with stab wounds on Causeway Street shortly after 10:30 p.m. Monday. He later died at a hospital, cops said.
Allison Foster, 25, of Allston, who works at a bar near where the stabbing occurred, said there was a lot of street traffic around the time of the stabbing because of a Pink concert at TD Garden. She said she saw the aftermath of the police investigation into the stabbing.
“The cops were out, they closed down the street and had a police dog,” Foster said. “There are a lot of homeless people around here. They hang out by the 7-Eleven and the North Station.”
A police detective was near the scene last night walking on Causeway Street near where the man was stabbed. A photographer was also out with the detective taking pictures.
