The funeral for slain Yarmouth police officer Sean Gannon is set for Wednesday, with his wake Tuesday including a solemn law enforcement walk-by.

Both the wake and funeral will be held at St. Pius X Church in South Yarmouth, state police announced late yesterday.

Tuesday’s wake is scheduled for 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. The police walk-by will be held at 5:30 p.m.

Wednesday’s funeral is set to begin at 11 a.m.

Gannon, 32, who was married, died from his wounds after being shot by a known felon while serving the man a warrant Thursday in Marstons Mills. Gannon’s K-9, Nero, was also shot, but is said to be recovering.

Support for the officer is pouring in from all over the country on the Yarmouth Police Department’s Facebook page.

A police officer from Los Angeles posted: “The news of Officer Gannon’s death has reached the west coast and I have made it a point to discuss his sacrifice with my colleagues at work. Everyone at the LAPD, especially Hollenbeck Division, ... (mourns) for the loss of Officer Gannon and pray for his family.”

‘Everyone at the LAPD ... (mourns) the loss of Officer Gannon.’

Department Chaplain Gerald Goncalo wrote to the chief in Yarmouth: “May the Lord provide you with wisdom and compassion as you lead your department forward in this tragedy.”

The Bruins Foundation has also offered to donate proceeds from a 50/50 raffle in Gannon’s honor. It was just another of countless words of support.
