No one to root for in Comey vs. president

Watching the testosterone-laden diatribe between two “masters of the universe” types, former FBI Director James Comey and President Donald Trump, is beyond ridiculous,

In one corner, ousted Mafia-busting, Martha Stewart-crushing Comey, wrapped in a cloak of higher purpose, doing the people’s (or God’s) work. Pick one or both.

In the other corner, President Trump, a shark, art-of-the-deal kind of wheeler and dealer, wellversed in getting what he wants.

Both are practiced at leaving collateral damage in their wakes, including Hilary Clinton and the American people.

Like two school boys circling each other before the political wrestling match, they make their moves. Round 1: Trump sizes Comey up. Easy put down. Round 2: Comey rebounds, accusing Trump of interference by suggesting he go easy on beleaguered former national security adviser Michael Flynn. Trouble is, no one was in the room to hear what was said. Round 3: Comey got played.

Comey’s flawed, Hillary Clinton campaign-crushing calculation that she would win the race even if he threw in a last minute curveball hit hard 10 days before the election. He took the Trump camp’s nonstop bait that he wasn’t being fair in prosecuting Clinton and, of course, that would damage St. Comey’s reputation as champion and protector of the people.

Without a doubt, he cost Clinton the presidency. Why? Because with two candidates like Clinton and Trump with high negatives, the race toward the end became a toss-up.

More than the miscalculation he now shrugs off on his television shows hawking his get-evenwith-Trump book, Comey single-handedly dodges the fact that he helped deliver the man he now describes as Mafia-like as our president. He even throws his ardent Clinton-supporting wife and daughters under the bus — all to demonstrate the sacrifices he made in service to the American people. Scary and somewhat despicable if you ask me.

I’m not buying it or his book.
