Richard Cahill, of Quincy, worked in real estate

Richard F. Cahill of Quincy died April 12.

He was born and raised in Quincy.

He graduated from St. Agatha School in Milton, Archbishop Williams High School in Braintree, Quincy Junior College, Boston University Metropolit­an College and the American Institute of Banking.

Mr. Cahill was employed as the mutual fund operations manager at New England Merchants National Bank of Boston.

He then worked as director of operations for Philips, Appel and Walden Inc. Growth Fund.

He was vice president of Kaufmann Mutual Funds and Stock Brokerage in New York.

He was on the board of directors of the semiprofes­sional New England Colonials Football Team.

Mr. Cahill began his real estate career while selling land on Martha’s Vineyard where he met Jack Conway and became manager of the Wollaston office in 1974.

He became president of Jack Conway & Co. in 1985 and remained president for 25 years.

He was director of the Massachuse­tts Associatio­n of Realtors, chairman of the Trustees for Fontbonne Academy, chairman of the Trustees of Quincy College, president of the South Shore Board of Realtors and a member of the Board of Trustees of Boston University Metropolit­an College.

He received various awards, including Massachuse­tts Realtor of the year in 1983, realtor of the year for the Plymouth Board and realtor emeritus status of the National Associatio­n of Realtors in 2014.

Mr. Cahill was a member and the transition­al coordinato­r for the DOVE domestic violence shelter.

He enjoyed golfing with his wife at President’s Golf Course, traveling around the world and was happiest surrounded by his beloved family and friends at his home while entertaini­ng by his pool.

He is survived by his wife of over 50 years, Carol Wixted; a daughter, Joan Cahill Canavan of Milton; a sister, Joanne Lydon of Cohasset and New Hampshire; two brothers, Stephen of Plymouth and Randall of Pembroke; three grandchild­ren; and several nieces and nephews.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. today at St. Agatha Church, Milton.

Burial will be in Milton Cemetery.
