GRONK GOES ‘VROOM VROOM’

- By ROSS GIENIECZKO

Donning full motocross gear instead of his Patriots uniform, tight end Rob Gronkowski made an appearance in Foxboro yesterday, dodging questions on the upcoming football season but missing no opportunity to tout his skills on dirtbikes. “My status is doing really great,” he said when he was asked about his standing for the 2018 NFL season. “I’ve been riding dirtbikes. I’ve been training really hard. I can vroom vroom really good. I can ride that bike like no other and my speed is up there.” Gronkowski joked at the podium during a short press conference prior to Monster Energy’s AMA Supercross event at Gillette Stadium, which was transformed into a championship race track thanks to 26 million pounds of dirt laid down last week.

The New England Patriots tight end said he would “karate-chop” any rider who tried to tackle him during a race and proceeded to show off his martial arts moves, sending dirt from his motocross boots flying across the room.

Gronkowski made the appearance with motocross legend Ricky Carmichael who said the Patriots tight end wouldn’t be able to get out on the track on Saturday, but hinted it could happen in the future.

“We’ve got plans to make it happen on a closed-course,” Carmichael said.

Motocross has been a lifelong interest for Gronkowski, dating back to his youth in Buffalo. Gronkowski said he and his brothers would badger their dad to buy dirtbikes and four-wheelers and terrified their mom with backyard stunt tracks.

“We used to make jumps in our backyard, my brothers and I. My mom would be flipping out,” Gronkowski said.
