SIGHTS SET ON DNC SERVERS

Trump ally says Dem suit could backfire

- By JOE DWINELL

One of President Trump’s original political backers warned the Democratic National Committee he’s coming after the computer servers.

Roger Stone, an ex-Trump adviser and vocal supporter, told the Herald the DNC’s suit against him and others could backfire.

“It’s just a left-wing conspiracy dressed up as a lawsuit,” Stone said. “They started it and opened a can of worms.”

He said his lawyers will ask to scour the DNC’s servers to determine for themselves if there was ever an alleged hack of the system by the Russians.

“You can’t sue me saying I hacked the DNC and not let me examine the evidence,” Stone said. “The hacking is a fiction.”

The Trump campaign, Russia, WikiLeaks and Trump son-inlaw Jared Kushner are named in the suit filed Friday in Manhattan federal court.

The DNC alleges the GOP presidential campaign engaged in a conspiracy to undercut Democrats in the 2016 election by stealing tens of thousands of emails and documents.

Stone, who is also named in the suit, accused the DNC of trying to fight history.

“They can’t seem to get over the fact they lost the election,” he said, adding they lost because voters “hated Hillary Clinton.”

The DNC disagreed.

“During the 2016 presidential campaign, Russia launched an all-out assault on our democracy, and it found a willing and active partner in Donald Trump’s campaign,” Tom Perez, the DNC chairman, said in a statement.

The suit also names Donald Trump Jr., along with the president, as being linked to the alleged hack. A hacker known as Guccifer 2.0, alleged to be a Russian intelligence officer, is also named.

The suit states “no one is above the law,” yet the Russians were able to launch a “brazen” cyberattack on the DNC during the “run-up to the 2016 election.”

The hack, the suit states, exposed the DNC’s emails, documents and phone system to outside agents.

The Trump campaign was “a willing active partner in this effort,” the DNC suit goes on the say, with the Russians supporting Trump and the mogul’s campaign just following along.

Stone is named in the suit as having knowledge of emails that would come out showing Russian had stolen emails from Clinton campaign manager John Podesta.

Stone said yesterday the suit is more Democratic “harassment” and “a waste of time.”

He added: “Just let the president govern,” saying a peace deal with North Korea is within reach and the economy continues to move along.
