MATT STUCK IN THE MIDDLE
Matt Damon has been thrown into the middle of an awkward custody battle. His buddies Ben Affleck and Chris Hemsworth have jokingly taken to social media to fight over the star’s affection.
Affleck, whose friendship with Damon reaches back to their Cambridge days, initiated the faux-feud after Gossip Cop published a piece called, “Matt Damon Replaced Ben Affleck With Chris Hemsworth As New Best Friend?”
To supply his own answer to the story’s posed question, Affleck wrote on Twitter, “Hey @chrishemsworth, you can have him! I’m Team @JimmyKimmel anyways.”
The extra Jimmy Kimmel zinger, of course, refers to the late-night host’s notable mock-dislike for Damon, whom he often peppers with digs on his ABC show.
Hemsworth didn’t leave Affleck’s comment hanging. The Australian actor, who’s hosted Damon and his family in Byron Bay on multiple occasions, replied: “Sorry mate not my fault!”
Hemsworth replied on social media. “He’s just a big @Marvel fan, not @DCComics. How do you like them apples. @Jimmykimmel the ball is in your court. Choose wisely...”
Damon made a Marvel cameo in Hemsworth’s recent “Thor: Ragnarok,” with an uncredited role as an Asgardian actor who’s portraying Thor’s half-brother, Loki. To add insult to Affleck’s injury, Damon also reportedly passed on playing a villain in Marvel’s “SpiderMan: Homecoming” sequel.
While Hemsworth and Affleck have paused their struggle over Damon’s friendship, there might be more jokes to come. Hemsworth will be appearing on “Jimmy Kimmel Live” next week to promote “Avengers: Infinity War,” so we’re banking on some top-notch material about their Twitter exchange.
