Johnson, Landry share Texas lead

Zach Johnson birdied the par-5 18th yesterday at the Valero Texas Open for a share of the third-round lead with Andrew Landry, a stroke ahead of recordsett­ing Trey Mullinax in San Antonio.

Johnson shot a 4-under-par 68, holing a 10-footer on 18 to match Landry at 13-under 203 at TPC San Antonio’s AT&T Oaks. Landry birdied the 16th and 17th in a 67. Mullinax had a course-record 62.

Johnson won the event in 2008 and 2009. The 42-year-old Iowan is trying to win for the first time since the 2015 British Open . . . .

Moriya Jutanugarn overcame a poor start and birdied the 18th for a hard-earned 1-under 70 to tie Jin Young Ko at 9-under going into the final round of the HUGEL-JTBC LA Open in Los Angeles. Hall of Famer Inbee Park was 2 shots back in third after a 69. Her birdie putt for a share of the lead on 18 slid just by the hole . . . .

A birdie on the last hole gave Alvaro Quiros a 1-shot lead to take into the final round of the Trophee Hassan II in Rabat, Morocco . . . .

Defending champions Vijay Singh and Carlos Franco took the third-round lead in the windy Bass Pro Shops Legends of Golf in Ridgedale, Mo.

Tennis: U.S. even with France in Fed Cup

Kristina Mladenovic rallied to beat CoCo Vandeweghe 1-6, 6-3, 6-2 and draw France level with defending champion United States in their Fed Cup semifinal in Aix-en-Provence, France.

The 20th-ranked Mladenovic dropped serve five times but broke No. 16 Vandeweghe’s serve six times.

Earlier, U.S. Open champion Sloane Stephens struggled to put away Pauline Parmentier 7-6 (3), 7-5 on indoor clay.

The reverse singles are today, followed by a doubles featuring Mladenovic and Amandine Hesse against Madison Keys and Bethanie Mattek-Sands . . . .

Rafael Nadal remained on course for a record 31st Masters title after beating Grigor Dimitrov 6-4, 6-1 in the Monte Carlo semifinals in Monaco.

Defending champion Josef Newgarden will start from the pole at Barber Motorsport­s Park in Birmingham, Ala. Newgarden edged fellow Team Penske driver Will Power in the final qualifying lap to earn the third pole position of his career. He has won the Indy Grand Prix of Alabama a few hours from his Tennessee hometown two of the last three years but has never started higher than third . . . .

A Mickey Mantle baseball card from 1952 was sold at auction for $2.88 million, falling just short of setting a record. The card, sold by former NFL lineman Evan Mathis, earned the second-highest figure for a card at an auction, trailing only the $3.12 million paid for a 1909 Honus Wagner card two years ago . . . .
