Yanks dump Jays

-

Aaron Judge hit an early homer off respected Twitter rival Marcus Stroman, then scored on a disputed play during a seven-run burst in the sixth inning that sent the Yankees over the Toronto Blue Jays, 9-1, yesterday in New York.

It was 3-1 in the sixth when the Yankees loaded the bases with no outs. Aaron Hicks hit a chopper up the first base line and Stroman made a backhanded toss to catcher Luke Maile, trying for a forceout. The ball bounced0 off Maile’s glove as Judge slid in safely.

Rookie Miguel Andujar added a three-run double and Judge capped the inning with an RBI single.

Jordan Montgomery (20) pitched six innings and allowed one run on four hits. Montgomery and two relievers combined to retire the last 15 Blue Jays batters.

Indians 4, Orioles 0 — Mike Clevenger pitched a two-hitter in his first career complete game, and Cleveland hit three solo homers off Chris Tillman to beat host Baltimore.

Jose Ramirez went 3-for4 with his team-leading fifth home run. Yan Gomes and Yonder Alonso also went deep for Cleveland, which came into the game ranked second-to-last in the AL in runs and last in batting average.

Rays 10, Twins 1 — In St. Petersburg, Fla., C.J. Cron hit a pair of two-run homers and Blake Snell won his third straight start as Tampa Bay rolled over Minnesota.

Astros 10, White Sox 1 —

Josh Reddick hit a grand slam and solo homer, and visiting Houston pounded reeling Chicago for its fifth straight win.

Already struggling on the field — and especially on the mound — the White Sox were dealt another blow when they learned that reliever Danny Farquhar suffered a brain hemorrhage while collapsing in the dugout Friday night.

Tigers 12, Royals 4 —

Nicholas Castellanos homered and drove in three runs, and host Detroit routed Kansas City to win for the fifth time in its last six gmaes.

The Cardinals have won seven of eight. The Reds dropped their fourth straight, and second under interim manager Jim Riggleman.

Braves 4, Mets 3 — Johan Camargo tripled home the tying run, then scored on Ender Inciarte’s bunt single as host Atlanta scored twice in the ninth off New York closer Jeurys Familia.

It was a pitchers’ duel, as the Mets’ Jacob deGrom and Atlanta’s Julio Teheran each pitched seven scoreless innings. After they left, the bullpens wilted.

Before the game, the Mets announced struggling starter Matt Harvey was removed from the starting rotation and moved to the bullpen.

Brewers 6, Marlins 5 — Jesus Aguilar homered on the 13th pitch leading off the bottom of the ninth inning as host Milwaukee rallied past Miami for its fifth consecutive win.
