Clippers first to knock off Cohasset

Defenses can only contain Cohasset’s Elle and Jane Hansen for so long, and it looked like the sisters were about to completely take over a key South Shore League matchup with rival Norwell yesterday.
The Clippers, however, came up with a response.
After a five-goal lead evaporated, No. 5 Norwell recovered and scored twice in the final three minutes to pull out a 12-10 victory over the top-ranked Skippers at the Clipper Community Complex in Norwell.
“We talk about the mental preparation and the physical preparation and it showed in the last five minutes when (Cohasset) was on a run,” said Norwell coach Kara Connerty. “They never felt like we were out of it. We just answered.”
Norwell (8-1) held an 8-3 advantage late in the first half, but its lead slowly dwindled due to the Hansens. While Norwell contained the sisters for most of the first half, they asserted themselves starting late in the frame, scoring the final eight goals for Cohasset (7-1).
Midway through the second half, Elle Hansen (five goals) rifled two shots into the net before Jane Hansen (three) picked a corner on a free-position tally to level the score at 10 with 6:41 left.
But Norwell remained poised. Anne Hilsinger put the Clippers back in front with 2:19 left on a goal from just outside the crease. Hilsinger then created a crucial turnover that led to an insurance goal from Lily Warendorf (three goals) with 42 seconds left.
Norwell also received stellar performances from Murphy McDonough (three goals, two assists) and Katie Amorosino (three goals) to secure the win.
“It was evident today that it was a team approach from our defense all the way up to our attack,” Connerty said.
