Twins stop losing slide

Jake Odorizzi pitched into the seventh inning, Mitch Garver homered and the Minnesota Twins snapped an eight-game losing streak with a 3-1 victory over the Cincinnati Reds yesterday in Minneapoli­s.

Odorizzi (2-2) gave up one run and five hits. Fernando Rodney worked around two walks while pitching a scoreless ninth for his third save in six chances.

Scott Schebler homered for the Reds, and Devin Mesoraco had two hits. Joey Votto went 0-for-3 with a walk, stopping his homer streak at four games.

An MRI confirmed Twins outfielder Byron Buxton has a hairline fracture in his left big toe after fouling a ball off his foot in a minor league rehab game in Florida last Sunday.

American League

Rangers 7, Blue Jays 4 — Bartolo Colon pitched seven efficient innings to earn his first win with Texas, and Robinson Chirinos returned from a two-game absence to hit two solo home runs as the Rangers won in Toronto.

Jurickson Profar added a two-run homer as Texas posted its season-high third straight victory. Kevin Pillar homered twice and Lourdes Gurriel Jr. also went deep for the Blue Jays, who have lost seven of nine.

Tigers 9, Orioles 5 — Miguel Cabrera homered and drove in five runs as Detroit won in Baltimore to snap a three-game skid.

Manny Machado had two hits and two RBI for the Orioles, who have lost 12 of their last 14 games.

Mariners 12, Indians 4 — Jean Segura hit a two-run homer and matched a career high with four RBI, helping Seattle rout host Cleveland.

Indians starter Carlos Carrasco (4-1) lost for the first time since Aug.27, ending a streak of 10 straight winning decisions.

Astros 11, A’s 0 — Lance McCullers threw seven sharp innings, Jose Altuve homered and had four hits as host Houston beat Oakland.

George Springer, Derek Fisher and Marwin Gonzalez also homered, while McCullers (4-1) allowed two hits, striking out seven without a walk for his third straight win.

White Sox 8, Royals 0 — Carson Fulmer allowed four singles over seven innings and Daniel Palka had four hits and drove in three as Chicago won in Kansas City in the first of a doublehead­er.

National League

Diamondbac­ks 4, Nationals 3 — David Peralta connected twice in his first multihomer game and Nick Ahmed scored the winning run on a bases-loaded walk in the 10th inning, sending Arizona Diamondbac­ks to victory in Washington.

Dodgers 15, Giants 6 — Chase Utley hit three doubles and a single as visiting Los Angeles did damage against every San Francisco pitcher except emergency reliever Pablo Sandoval in the first game of a doublehead­er to end a three-game skid.

The former Red Sox was summoned from third base to begin the ninth inning and, in his first major league pitching appearance, retired three straight batters on grounders on 11 pitches.

Cubs 3, Brewers 0 — Jose Quintana pitched seven sharp innings to help host Chicago beat Milwaukee.

Tommy La Stella drove in two runs with a pinch-hit single in the seventh, and Javier Baez had a run-scoring double in Chicago’s third straight victory.

Braves 4, Phillies 1 — Freddie Freeman was robbed of a home run by Odubel Herrera, but later hit an RBI triple and Nick Markakis homered, helping Mike Foltynewic­z and Atlanta win for the ninth time in their last 12 games in Philadelph­ia.

Pirates 6, Cardinals 2 — Francisco Cervelli homered in the second and delivered a tiebreakin­g sacrifice fly in the sixth, helping host Pittsburgh beat St. Louis.
