Rivals take lax into city

- By GREG DUDEK

Lincoln-Sudbury and Concord-Carlisle brought the longest running lacrosse rivalry in Eastern Massachusetts into the city.

As part of Harlem Lacrosse, which looks to grow the game in the inner city and has formed partnerships with the two schools, the Dual County League rivals who have faced off since 1971 played at TechBoston yesterday in the initiative’s inaugural jamboree.

For the seventh straight meeting, the Warriors came out on top by pulling away in the fourth quarter for an 11-3 win over C-C.

“I’ve spent most of my life trying to grow the game,” said L-S coach Brian Vona, who is also a Harlem Lacrosse board member. “When I and (C-C coach) Tommy (Dalicandro) played, there were 25 high schools that played. To see it continue growing and be part of that, I feel really humbled.”

L-S (7-3) scored the game’s first four goals, but C-C (6-3) battled back behind goalie Ben Kacher, who made 11 saves and recorded an assist, as the Patriots got within 5-3 just 38 seconds into the third quarter.

But the Warriors answered, getting two tallies each from Matt Ward (four goals) and Finn Garrity (three goals) in the fourth quarter to create separation. The Warriors defense also stepped up, holding C-C scoreless for the final 23 minutes and without a shot in the fourth quarter.

Elsewhere, Garrett Young tallied five goals and an assist as Masconomet (9-2) edged Cape Ann League foe Pentucket, 10-8.

Sophomore Colleen Crotty had five goals and two assists, eclipsing the 100-point plateau for her career, as Peabody (8-1) took a 15-3 win over Northeastern Conference opponent Gloucester.
