Orioles finally get 10th win

Adam Jones homered, scored three runs and had three RBI, and the Orioles outslugged the Kansas City Royals, 11-6, last night in Baltimore to emerge with their second winning streak of the season and finally earn their 10th victory. Manny Machado and Trey Mancini also went deep for the Orioles, who trailed 4-0 in the first inning and 6-3 in the second before rallying to beat the Royals for the second night in a row.

Miguel Castro (1-1) replaced ineffectiv­e starter Chris Tillman (11 ⁄3 innings, six runs) and blanked Kansas City over 42⁄3 innings, his longest outing of the season.

Salvador Perez hit a grand slam for the Royals, who were seeking their second series win of the year.

Mariners 9, Blue Jays 3 — Kyle Seager hit two home runs, including his fourth career grand slam, and Jean Segura had four hits as Seattle won in Toronto.

Mariners right-hander Mike Leake (4-3) matched a season high by pitching seven innings, allowing two runs on six hits.

Ryon Healy and Mike Zunino added solo home runs for Seattle. Healy connected off Happ in the third, his sixth. Zunino went deep off Tim Mayza in the ninth, his sixth.

Russell Martin hit a tworun homer for Toronto, but the Blue Jays lost for the sixth time in their past eight home games.

National League

Braves 9, Marlins 2 — Ozzie Albies hit Atlanta’s first grand slam of the season to highlight a sevenrun sixth inning, Freddie Freeman had a career-high five hits and the NL East leaders won in Miami.

Freeman also homered for the Braves in that sixthinnin­g outburst, when Atlanta got all of its runs with two out. Albies also had a run-scoring single in the ninth to cap his five-RBI night.

The Braves have won eight straight games on the road, outscoring opponents 50-7 in that span. Atlanta starter Mike Foltynewic­z (3-2) gave up three hits and one unearned run in five innings, and Luiz Gohara got a three-inning save.

Lewis Brinson homered in the ninth, and Martin Prado had two hits and an RBI for the Marlins, who have lost four straight. Manager Don Mattingly was away from the team because of a death in his family. He is expected back today.

Phillies 5, Giants 3 —

Vince Velasquez recovered from a slow start to strike out 12 in six innings, Carlos Santana hit a three-run homer and host Philadelph­ia rallied past San Fransisco to complete a fourgame sweep.

The Giants struck out 55 times in Philadelph­ia, obliterati­ng the previous team record of 44 in a four-game series set in 2003, according to Stats LLC.

Odubel Herrera added three hits and drove in two runs, extending his on-base streak to 39 games for the Phillies, who improved to 15-5 at home.

Gregor Blanco and Alen Hanson homered to give the Giants a 3-0 lead in the second.

The St. Louis Cardinals put ace Carlos Martinez on the 10-day disabled list because of a strained lat. Martinez leads the National League with a 1.62 ERA . ...
