Bridgewater-Raynham had its eyes set on claiming an Old Colony League softball title. But league foe Dartmouth wanted its share, too.

B-R will now most likely have to split the hardware with the Indians after Dartmouth got up early and held on late to spoil the Trojans’ bid for an outright title with a narrow 6-5 road win yesterday.

“This is a pretty strong group,” said Dartmouth coach Beth Arguin, as both sides have one OCL game remaining against Barnstable. “They have a lot of experience now as young as they are — most of them are juniors. They did hold it together and they came through.”

Dartmouth (11-2) led 6-1 in the bottom of the seventh, when B-R’s bats woke up.

B-R (9-3) loaded the bases with one out and Hannah Rideout got the Trojans within a run by hitting a grand slam over the left-field fence.

Summer Sheerin followed with an infield single to put the tying run at first, but Sophia Sousa got two ground outs to end it.

The Indians got off to a hot start with Hannah Arruda belting a tworun home run in the top of the first. It was the fourth straight game with a homer for Arruda.

“It definitely set the tone,” said Arguin of Arruda’s blast. “After that they had confidence that they could hit the ball.”

Dartmouth added to its lead with two runs in the second coming on two-out RBI singles from Jackie Racine and Rachel Pereira before scoring two more times in the fourth.

Sousa kept the 6-1 lead intact by limiting B-R to three hits from the second to sixth innings before the Trojans’ rally ultimately fell short.

In the South Coast Conference, junior Casey Medeiros was 3-for3 with two doubles, four RBI and three runs scored as Case (9-3) crushed Wareham, 14-1.

Emma Cicchetti struck out 15, pushing Plymouth South (10-1) to a 15-4 victory over Scituate in a Patriot League matchup.

Johnna Calder went 3-5, powering Lynn Classical (8-4) to an 11-9 victory over Northeastern Conference foe Swampscott.
