Police arrest two men in deadly Dorchester shooting
Two men were arrested yesterday in connection with the shooting death of Dorchester resident Michael Ross and will be arraigned tomorrow in Roxbury District Court.
Ross, 34, was found suffering from an apparent gunshot wound on Wayland Street on the morning of March 30, according to Boston police. He died at Boston Medical Center after receiving chest compressions from officers at the scene.
Dawon Wright, 22, of Dorchester and Dario Baxter, 21, of Lynn were apprehended by members of the Boston Police Department Homicide Unit and Fugitive Unit yesterday for their alleged role in the murder.
Commissioner William B. Evans said the two suspects were caught within 24 hours of warrants being issued for their arrests, according to a statement from police.
“I want to praise the unyielding effort and dedication of my investigators and officers, who worked tirelessly to ensure that these two violent criminals will now be brought to justice,” Evans said. “I specifically want to commend my Homicide Detectives . ... I would also like to commend my officers in the Fugitive Unit. I can only hope that news of these arrests can bring some small level of comfort to the family, friends and loved ones of Michael Ross.”
Evans said on the morning of the shooting that officers found Ross suffering from a gunshot wound to the chest. Police were able to identify the area of Wayland Street after gunshots were detected by a ShotSpotter detection and location service.
