Worcester police continue to investigate who fatally shot a 16-year-old boy Saturday night in the city’s first slaying of the year, authorities said.

Worcester Public Schools Superintendent Maureen Binienda identified the teen as Sidney Krow Jr., according to news reports. She said he attended Gerald Creamer Center and lived near where he was found wounded.

Krow’s family and friends could not be reached for comment yesterday.

Police said they responded to the area and found four young men tending to the wounded boy, who was suffering from a gunshot.

The teen was pronounced dead at a local hospital shortly before midnight, police said. They declined to release his identity yesterday afternoon.

Police said they found “ballistic evidence” near Holland Road. The four teens who tended to the victim were interviewed, police said.

“The preliminary investigations indicated that the group of males was walking back to a nearby home when several shots rang out. Several neighbors told police that they thought the shots were fireworks going off. After the shooting, a male was seen getting into a small vehicle and then driving off from the scene. The description of the male and the vehicle are being sought after by investigators,” cops said.

Anyone with information is urged to send an anonymous text to 274637 TIPWPD. The Worcester Police Detective Bureau can be reached at 508-799-8651.
