BC’s Apuzzo, Yale’s Reeves atop college lax
Yale captain Ben Reeves and junior attack Sam Apuzzo of Boston College have won the Tewaaraton Award, given annually to the most outstanding male and female college lacrosse players in the nation.
The ceremony was held last night at the Smithsonian Institution’s National Museum of the American Indian in Washington.
Reeves closed his college career with one goal and three assists in a 13-11 victory over Duke on Monday at Gillette Stadium in Foxboro for the national championship. He finished the season with 62 goals and 53 assists.
Apuzzo, a finalist for the second straight year, led the Eagles to an undefeated regular season (17-0) and the program’s seventh appearance in the NCAA tournament plus BC’s second straight trip to the national title game. She led the team in goals (88), assists (41), points (129), draw controls (163), forced turnovers (31) and game-winning goals (nine).
Hall pass for Friedel
Former United States and Revolution goalkeeper Brad Friedel, was one of five inductees into the National Soccer Hall of Fame. Friedel, now the Revs coach, was joined by MLS commissioner Don Garber, forward Tiffeny Milbrett and midfielder Cindy Parlow Cone of the U.S. women’s team, and former U.S. Soccer president Bob Contiguglia . . . .

Sixers extend Brown
The Philadelphia 76ers have announced a three-year contract extension for coach Brett Brown while team president Bryan Colangelo is embroiled in controversy. Brown, who took the 76ers from 10 wins to the third seed in the Eastern Conference in just two seasons, got a new deal that runs through the 2021-22 season. On Wednesday, the team said it is investigating whether Colangelo used a variety of Twitter accounts to anonymously trash some of his own players and fellow executives.
