Rosario’s 3rd blast a winner

Eddie Rosario hit his third homer of the game, launching a two-run shot in the bottom of the ninth inning to lift the Minnesota Twins over the Cleveland Indians, 7-5, yesterday in Minneapoli­s.

Rosario, who began the day with 10 home runs for the season, helped the Twins beat the AL Centrallea­ding Indians for the third straight day.

Indians closer Cody Allen (2-2) walked Brian Dozier to lead off the ninth and Rosario followed with a drive to deep right-center field.

Rosario hit a solo homer in the first inning and another solo home run in the seventh. Brian Dozier also homered for Minnesota.

Athletics 5, Royals 1 — Matt Olson hit a three-run home run in the eighth as visiting Oakland topped Kansas City.

Olson went 5-for-11 with three homers, eight RBI and scored five runs in the set.

Blue Jays 8, Tigers 4 — Justin Smoak’s sixth-inning homer broke a scoreless tie and visiting Toronto ended its five-game losing streak with a win over Detroit.

Mariners 2, Rays 1 — Felix Hernandez was in vintage form, allowing one run in eight innings, and runscoring singles from Denard Span and Dee Gordon gave host Seattle a comeback win over Tampa Bay.

Angels 3, Rangers 1 — Tyler Skaggs pitched six scoreless innings of fourhit ball and Justin Upton homered in Los Angeles’ win over visiting Texas.

Yankees-Orioles, ppd. — New York’s game at Baltimore was postponed because of rain. It will be made up as part of a split doublehead­er on Aug. 25.

National League

Cardinals 5, Pirates 0 — Michael Wacha lost a nohit bid in the ninth inning when pinch-hitter Colin Moran led off with a single, leaving to a huge ovation and pitching host St. Louis past Pittsburgh.

This was the second time Wacha had a no-hit try broken up in the ninth. As a rookie in 2013, he was one out away from a no-hitter when Washington’s Ryan Zimmerman got an infield single.

Cubs 2, Mets 0 — Jon Lester dominated for seven innings and Javier Baez stole home to break a scoreless tie as visiting Chicago blanked New York, completing a four-game sweep and winning for the seventh time in eight games.

The Mets have lost four straight and 9-of-11.

Braves 4, Nationals 2 — Pinch-hitter Charlie Culberson hit a game-ending two-run homer to lift host Atlanta past Washington.

It was the second time this week that Culberson homered to win a game and marked Atlanta’s ninth win in its last at-bat.

Dodgers 10, Rockies 7 — In Denver, Max Muncy homered twice, Yasmani Grandal also went deep in a three-run ninth inning, and Los Angeles outslugged Colorado.

The Dodgers rallied from five down to sweep the three-game series.

Giants 6, Phillies 1 — Dereck Rodriguez earned his first big league win, giving up a home run to Jake Arrieta but outpitchin­g the ace to lead host San Francisco over Philadelph­ia for a three-game sweep.

Padres 6, Reds 3 — Hunter Renfroe’s pinchhit, go-ahead grand slam in the fifth inning lifted Tyson Ross and host San Diego over Cincinnati.

Diamondbac­ks 6, Marlins 1— In Phoenix, Matt Koch allowed three hits over seven scoreless innings and Arizona completed a threegame sweep and extended Miami’s losing streak to a season-long six games.

Interleagu­e

White Sox 6, Brewers 1 — Daniel Palka and Adam Engel hit back-to-back homers in a three-run sixth inning, and host Chicago chopped Milwaukee.
